Do I Have to Worry About the Soft Spots on My Newborn’s Head?

You may notice that your newborn has soft spots on their hear which don't feel like the rest of the head. The thought that you can hurt your baby's brain at the soft spot is enough to strike terror into the hearts of many new parents. These spots called fontanelles are completely normal and will close on the back of the head at around three months and in the front usually by 18 months. If the spots seem to be sunken this can mean dehydration, but you can care for them gently in the same way you would the rest of your baby's head.

How Do I Know if My Newborn Is Getting Enough Food?

If you baby seems content, is sleeping normally, cries for food every three to four hours and has lots of wet diapers and a couple poopy diapers a day, your baby is probably fine. With breast milk, it is harder to tell but watch for signs that things don't seem right and call your pediatrician for newborn care in Anthem, AZ.

Why Does My Newborn Have Black Poop?

When your newborn poops in the first few days it is usually a black merconium. Merconium is a combination of mucus, amniotic fluid, and other things that the baby ingested in utero. While it does look really scary, it is normal and should go away after a couple of days to be replaced by equally scary green poop, but not to worry, it's all normal.
