What Is the School Schedule for Vaccines?

Angel Pediatrics with Dr. David Yip and Dr. Dinna Rosenthal can provide your child with the vaccinations in Anthem, AZ, that they need to be healthy. For example, we can prepare your child for their first day of school by getting them fully vaccinated and keeping them healthy throughout the rest of their life. Here's the Arizona state requirements for vaccinating children.

Kindergarten Through First Grade

Arizona state law requires children up through kindergarten to have all three doses of hepatitis B, four doses of polio, two doses of measles, one dose of VAR, and five doses of the diptheria vaccine. These different vaccinations in Anthem, AZ, come at varying times, including:

  • Hepatitis B: A child should get three doses of this vaccine before they are 24 weeks of age to provide maximum protection from this infection.
  • Polio: Giving a child four doses of polio before they hit four years old will ensure that they are protected from this condition.
  • Measles: The measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine requires at least one dose by 12 months and at least one more dose before the child goes to kindergarten.
  • Var: Children need to get one varicella or chickenpox dose before they reach 12 months or two four weeks apart if they get the dose after age 13.
  • Diptheria: The diptheria, tetanus, and pertussis vaccine should be given in five doses before the child reaches four.

Extra Protection Later

While your child should have a majority of their school vaccines by the time they hit kindergarten, there are a handful of other shots that they'll need to get throughout their school career. These are mostly extra diptheria shots that also help protect against tetanus and pertussis.

For example, your child needs to get four more doses of this shot (though three may be acceptable if the first was given after the child's first birthday. The child may also need to get one more shot after their tenth birthday to help protect them from these painful conditions.

Furthermore, Arizona also asks that children get one dose of the meningitis shot when they reach ten years of age. This shot will protect them from this painful and potentially deadly condition for the rest of their life. At this point, your child should be fully immunized.
